I’m not sure how many problem riders there actually are on the LIRR, but they’re not the only ones that need monitoring.
There were a few important items omitted from the MTA/LIRR courtesy campaign, so I stepped in to help.
The LIRR is considering adding cupholders in the new cars slated for delivery in 2017.
That will be a superb (and welcome) distraction from the inexorable upward journey of your fare.
According to very unbiased, scientific studies, the crumbling of the Amtrak-operated tunnels under the East River (due to Sandy related flooding), and ensuing years of closures/repairs will affect the LIRR more than any other rail service on the entire planet. Sigh.
I’ve been at Newsday only a couple of weeks, but one thing that quickly became very clear is that the Long Island Rail Road is the great regional unifier.
Everyone gathers and holds hands to decry the beleaguered system.
