When I was a kid, I would have been thrilled to have my teachers tell me not to take a test. And it wouldn’t have been a good idea then either.
To all you teachers out there, I love you dearly, and I’m not reflexively anti-union. So I’m trying to figure out why I’m so bothered by your exhortation for other people’s children to opt out of tests. It appears that because you can’t legally go on strike to protest teacher evaluation being linked to student performance, you’re asking the kids to go on strike for you.
The myriad of politicians running for office who are opposed to Common Core seem to have all been taught the same uncritical talking point in candidate class. There’s a vague call for a new curriculum “with teacher and parent involvement.” A) Do they really think no educators were involved in the creation of Common Core? and B) Have they ever been to a PTA meeting?
