On Sept. 1, Aroldis Chapman threw a 100-mph fastball that just missed Mike Brosseau’s head. The benches cleared. No punches were thrown.

Rays manager Kevin Cash blamed the incident on “poor judgment, poor coaching,” and added, "I got a whole stable full of guys that throw 98 miles an hour. Period.”

Yankees manager Aaron Boone called Cash’s remarks, “scary” and “reckless and inflammatory.”

Chapman denied throwing the pitch on purpose but was suspended 3 games. Cash and Boone each were suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount.

"They’ve had our number,” Brett Gardner said of going 2-8 vs. the Rays this season. "We haven’t been able to figure them out, so the hope is we’ll see those guys again in October."

"They don't like us, we don't like them," the Rays' Kevin Kiermaier said before the ALDS, "and it's going to continue to stay that way."

The Yankees and Rays begin the best-of-5 ALDS on Monday with the winner advancing to the ALCS.
