State parks attendance for 2018
New York State had a net gain of 2.6 million visitors to state parks during the year.
New York State had a net gain of 2.6 million visitors to state parks in 2018, according to figures from the New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation Department, a 3.6 percent increase to more than 74 million. Long Island, which had nearly 1.7 million additional visitors, accounted for 53 percent of 3.1 million in gains from the eight regions that saw an increase in visitors. State parks on the Island had 25,622,088 visitors in 2018.
New York City, which experienced a decline in 2017, saw its numbers rise as well, up nearly 4 percent to 7,386,928.
Jones Beach recorded the largest overall increase in visitors on the Island, up nearly 43 percent to 8,501,395. Robert Moses saw the biggest decline, down 369,503 visitors to 3,674,639, a drop of 9.1 percent.
