Costs for school cleanup and repairs from superstorm Sandy

Long Island school districts spent more than an estimated $80 million on cleanup, repairs and renovations to schools from damage caused by superstorm Sandy, which struck Long Island on Oct. 29, 2012. The table below shows updated district-by-district estimates for Nassau and Suffolk counties, of the costs. The bulk of expenses were paid with funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, with other portions covered by district insurance or by other government agencies. Newsday obtained the figures from the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
