Where the jobs are expected in 2022
Health care practitioners and health care support workers make up two of the top four employment sectors with the most growth expected by New York State by 2022. Long Island overall is expected to see 11.2 percent job growth by 2022, but that is expected to vary widely by job title, with Postal Service clerks expected to decrease by 32 percent while industrial-organizational psychologists are to increase by 52 percent, according to a forecast from the state Department of Labor. Here are the details for 647 categories and job titles on Long Island in a 10-year forecast that used 2012 as a base. The "average annual opening" figures combine new jobs with vacancies that would have to be filled. The department surveyed approximately 52,000 businesses statewide from 2011 to 2014 and then updated the data by making cost-of-living adjustments. This database was updated on Jan. 18, 2017.
