How would female deacons affect the church?

Pope Francis has appointed a commission to look into the idea of allowing women to serve as deacons in the Roman Catholic Church – with Hofstra professor Phyllis Zagano one of the commission members. Proponents say it would give greater equality to women and energize the church. Critics, however, warn that such a move could open the door to women in the priesthood. How do you think allowing women to serve as deacons would affect the church?
